Marco Rubio Defends Headlining Anti-LGBT Event on 2 Month Anniversary of Orlando Shooting: VIDEO

Marco Rubio orlando

Marco Rubio has defended his decision to attend a conference in Orlando organized by a Christian activist who believes homosexuality will lead to the total destruction of America.

Sadly, @marcorubio is headlining this anti-LGBT event w/ Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver & Wallbuilders' David Barton. https://t.co/kZm315vNn6

Rediscovering God in America, which takes place August 11-12th, on the two month anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub massacre, is hosted by the Florida Renewal Project, an affiliate of conservative activist David Lane’s American Renewal Project. Lane has been linked to anti-gay hate group the American Family Association.

Said Rubio to the Tampa Bay Times:

“The event I will be speaking at in Orlando is a gathering of local pastors and faith leaders. Leave it to the media and liberal activists to label a gathering of faith leaders as an anti-LGBT event. It is nothing of the sort. It is a celebration of faith.”

Mat Staver David BartonRight Wing Watch reports that at the first Rediscovering God in America event back in 2011, Mike Huckabee called on participants to become “spiritual warriors” in the fight against marriage equality.

Slated to take part are a number of extreme anti-gay activists including Mat Staver and David Barton (above right).

Staver has said that memorials following the Orlando massacre had become a “homosexual love fest.” As well as representing serial monogamist Kim Davis, he has praised moves in Russia, India, Malawi and Nigeria to outlaw homosexuality. Meanwhile, Barton has complained that same-sex marriage will lead to the legalization of pedophilia.

@marcorubio You need to withdraw from "Rediscovering God In America" event, or don't dare invoke #pulse shooting to help your career.

Rubio, who recently cited the Orlando massacre as a reason he was changing his mind and running for re-election to the Senate, last week attacked “the media and liberal activists” for labeling “a gathering of faith leaders as an anti-LGBT event.”

Despite the fear mongering and hatred displayed by conference delegates, in denying the true spirit of Rediscovering God in America, Rubio has said that the debate on same-sex marriage should be “respectful of the views and the dignity of those on both sides.”

Watch Rubio claim that homosexuality is a “real and present danger” to Christianity below.
